September 2026

No-photo cards, cash, and swap cards polished further

  • ·Player names on no-photo cards (pick cards, plain player cards, and package cards inside multi-asset bundles) are now centered in the space where a photo would go, instead of sitting low with an empty gap above them.
  • ·The cash card now just says "Cash" at a readable size, instead of cutting off mid-word ("CASH…", "Consi…").
  • ·A broken icon box that showed up on the cash card and on swap-right pick cards is gone.
  • ·Clicking a cash card now shows both teams involved in the panel, not just the one receiving the cash.

Cleaner cards for no-photo players, cash, and swap rights

  • ·Players with a real NBA ID but no photo on file (Nemanja Nedović, Luke Ridnour, Chris Duhon, Christian Eyenga and Josh Richardson among them) now get the same clean, name-only card as older pre-photo-era players, instead of an empty gray silhouette. Player photos also load a bit faster, and long names with a hyphen (like Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot) no longer break awkwardly across two lines.
  • ·A pick tied to an unused trade swap right — like the Cavaliers’ 2012 first-rounder from the LeBron James trade — now shows a clear "Swap right — not used" label instead of tiny, hard-to-read text.
  • ·Cash considerations are easier to read on the card, and clicking one now opens a real panel showing the trade, the teams involved, and the amount (or "Cash considerations" when the amount isn’t known) — instead of a broken player panel with no photo.

Big trade trees are now readable on phones

  • ·Big trade trees like LeBron James’s, Jericho Sims’s and Bradley Beal’s used to open on a phone shrunk down to a few pixels wide — unreadable without pinch-zooming in. They now open at a size you can actually read, centered on the player you searched.

Picks pointed the right way, players get their own pages

  • ·Twenty-six trades that were stored twice — once on the day they were agreed and again on the day they became official — now appear once. Kyrie Irving’s 2017 move to Boston, the DeMarcus Cousins trade, Shaq’s trade to Cleveland and several of this February’s deadline deals were among them, and the copy that survived is the complete one (Kyrie’s now shows the picks that became Collin Sexton and Skylar Mays). Kyrie’s 2023 trade to Dallas also lists the three picks Dallas sent.
  • ·Players whose official NBA photo is only a grey placeholder — B.J. Armstrong, J.R. Reid and Glen Rice among them — now show the standard silhouette instead of that grey figure, and any player the league adds a placeholder for later is handled the same way automatically.
  • ·Old-timers without a photo on file no longer get a grey silhouette. Cards for players from before the photo era drop the empty portrait and give the name the room instead, on both the trade tree and Daily Route; players who do have a photo are untouched.
  • ·Daily Route no longer repeats a player: once someone has been the answer, they sit out for at least three months, and each day’s puzzle is now locked in ahead of time so a data update can’t swap it out from under you.
  • ·Big trade trees keep their recent branches. For players with sprawling histories like LeBron James or Vince Carter, the explorer used to run out of room and quietly drop the newest side branches while keeping decades-old ones; it now trims the far ends of every branch instead.
  • ·Sixty-eight traded draft picks were labelled with the wrong draft year — Magic Johnson’s pick said 1980, Doc Rivers’ said 1984, Danny Ferry’s said 1991 — and 46 of them showed a second-rounder as a first-round number. Every one now carries the year, overall pick number and round the player was actually taken at, checked against the draft record.
  • ·Nine more 2026 draft picks now show who they turned into — Christian Anderson Jr. (the first-rounder the Hornets got for Jusuf Nurkic), Braden Smith (the Vucevic–Simons trade), Tyler Nickel (the Kevin Durant trade), Tobi Lawal (the Bradley Beal trade), Ja’Kobi Gillespie, Lajae Jones, Vsevolod Ishchenko and Narcisse Ngoy.
  • ·Jakob Pöltl, Juancho Hernangómez and Ömer Aşık each had their trades split across two separate pages, one of them without a photo. Each now has a single page with every trade and the right headshot, and the old links still land in the right place.
  • ·Eighteen international players whose names carry accents (Milan Mačvan, Fran Vázquez, Artūras Gudaitis, Jānis Timma and others) had web addresses with letters missing from their names. The addresses are spelled correctly now, and any old link redirects to the new one.
  • ·Seven draft picks in three recent trades were shown flowing to the wrong team. The two second-rounders the Pacers got for Chris Duarte, the 2031 swap the Heat got for Thomas Bryant, and all four first-round picks in the Suns–Jazz swap now go to the team that actually received them.
  • ·Twelve players were sharing another player’s photo and trade history — Peyton Watson, Mark Williams, Malaki Branham, Rob Dillingham, Jared McCain, Otto Porter Jr., Kyle O’Quinn, Filip Petrusev, Walt Wesley and Amari Bailey among them. Each now opens as themselves.
  • ·62 multi-team trades listed the same draft pick twice, so a player like Shane Larkin or Rayan Rupert showed up as two cards in one trade. Each of those picks now appears once, with the correct draft year.

Trade trees stop crossing their own lines

  • ·Branches that split off in different directions no longer collide — two trades from the same tree could end up sharing a row, so one trade’s connecting line ran straight through another’s. Cameron Payne’s tree was the clearest case.
  • ·Cards in a row are evenly spaced again instead of bunching up, and the player a trade continues through now sits directly under its date with a straight line, rather than drifting off to one side.

Daily Route calls out a wrong guess who’s still on the tree

  • ·A wrong guess now checks the rest of today’s tree — if that player turns up further down the chain, we say so and reveal their card early, on top of the normal row-by-row reveal.

  • ·Stuck on today’s puzzle? A new Give Up button reveals the full tree and ends the day, instead of forcing you to keep guessing until you run out.

Daily Route matches the rest of the site now

  • ·Daily Route’s cards now show the same corrected team code as the main trees (Brooklyn, Charlotte, Phoenix, Washington). The daily puzzle could still show an older code even after the main site was fixed.
  • ·A wide row in a Daily Route puzzle no longer wraps onto a second line on phones. A wrapped row used to look like a deeper part of the tree than it really was — most visibly in puzzles with four or more same-generation trades, where an earlier trade could look like it happened after a later one.

Photos and trade counts fixed sitewide

  • ·Player photos briefly started showing a blank silhouette for everyone, including players with a real photo on file — a side effect of a recent sharing-image fix. Photos are back.
  • ·Some players’ trade counters were undercounting their real trade history — Jonas Valančiūnas’s pager wasn’t showing at all despite being part of 5 trades. Fixed for everyone affected.

Connected lines and a steadier trade bar on phones

  • ·A player card that has to slide sideways to make room no longer shows a floating stub of line above it. Its line now bends to reach the trade date it belongs to, as with Randy Foye and Carmelo Anthony in Eric Bledsoe’s second trade.
  • ·Trade-date boxes now sit centered between the cards above and below them instead of hanging low, most visibly on draft-night trades like the one between Eric Bledsoe and Fab Melo.
  • ·The Prev / Next / Direct bar stays on one line on phones. The trade counter no longer breaks across three lines and the Direct button no longer wraps onto two when you tap it.

Trade exceptions listed once

  • ·A trade exception now shows up once on a player’s panel, even when the same exception is recorded twice for that trade.
  • ·Small trade trees now open at a readable size on phones instead of shrinking to fit a wide row in a mostly empty screen. Pan sideways for the outer cards; deep trees still open with the full overview.
  • ·38 three-, four- and five-team trades from 1963 through the August 2026 five-team Cavaliers deal are now in the database, and every player in 17 multi-team trades now shows the team they really came from and went to (Patrick Ewing 2000, Klay Thompson 2024, Chris Paul 2026).

Second-round picks labeled correctly

  • ·Hundreds of historical draft picks were showing as first-rounders because their pick number counted from the start of the round, not the draft. 745 of them now carry the real overall number, so the pick that became Manute Bol reads 2nd round, #31.

Draft-pick years corrected across the history

  • ·Over 1,000 historical draft picks now show the correct draft year. Most were labeled one year late, so the pick that became Manute Bol now reads 1985 instead of 1986.
  • ·The 2026 draft-night trades and the February Bulls, Cavaliers and Kings three-team deal are now in the database, so this year’s rookies appear in the right trees.
  • ·Mojave King now shows the correct player photo, and the 2021 pick in Miami’s Dragić trade now correctly shows Tre Mann.

  • ·Added the 2026 offseason, including the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade to Miami, Jaylen Brown and Paul George swapping places, the LaMelo Ball four-team deal, and a six-team trade involving Dallas, Detroit, the Clippers, Memphis, Milwaukee and Washington.
  • ·Stars traded this offseason now show their real photos instead of a blank silhouette.
  • ·Signing-rights players no longer appear as if they were full players in a trade — they show as their own kind of card.
  • ·Fixed two players whose cards were showing another player’s photo, and whose trade history was split in two as a result.
  • ·Cards in trades involving signing rights no longer sit on top of each other.

One consistent code per team

  • ·Brooklyn, Charlotte, Phoenix, and Washington now show the same team code everywhere on a tree. Previously the same team could appear under two different codes depending on the trade, and the date line under a trade could disagree with the team tag on the cards right above it.
  • ·Teams that moved cities are still shown separately on purpose — a Seattle SuperSonics trade stays Seattle, and a Vancouver Grizzlies trade stays Vancouver, rather than being relabeled with the current city.
